It grows wild in the mountains of Portugal and might be barely hardy here. \u00a0Another successful seed sowing from the PBS in 2013 was Dichelostemma multiflorum which grows wild in over the past\u00a0few years and managed to lose of lot of my seedlings last year when the water timer failed while we were on vacation. \u00a0I&#8217;ve kept all those pots just in case, but decided last week to go through the hundreds of pots and reclaim the soil and pots.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5009\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a with waiting for the first flowers. \u00a0Four years ago I bought a tiny little seedling of Paeonia rockii from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrightmanalpines.com\/home\" target=\"_blank\">Wrightman Alpines<\/a>. \u00a0It has taken until this year to produce it&#8217;s first flowers. \u00a0I think you will agree that it was worth the wait.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5015\" style=\"width: 1034px\" exchanges that I participate in, the results are just short of 50% of the seeds successfully started so far. \u00a0In other words, so far, so good.<\/p>\n<p>The other part of the seed topic is collecting the ones that are appearing right now. \u00a0Many of the spring ephemerals are putting out seeds in quantity now.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5030\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hepatica seeds<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Often\u00a0the spring emphemerals have\u00a0elaiosomes on the seeds that make them\u00a0attractive to ants. \u00a0So there is a brief 3-5 day window when you can just knock off the seeds to collect them. \u00a0Otherwise, if they fall, the ants will gather them up and take them home for planting.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5012\" past week. \u00a0But what emerged is very likely Zephyranthes dichromata. \u00a0That&#8217;s pretty much par for the course on starting some of these unusual plants from seed. \u00a0You can wait years for a seedling to emerge and then discover that it was either a mislabeled package or some friendly neighboring pot contributed some viable seed. \u00a0It&#8217;s likely that the Zephyranthes jumped from a neighboring pot because they do seed freely. \u00a0But then there are the successful outcomes like the big Paradisea that is just finishing
