Well the good thing about black snakes is that they consume all kinds of rodents as well as other snakes. The bad thing is that they will eat bird eggs too. On balance I would rather have them clearing out things like the voles that ate my lilies one year or the chipmunks that have eaten parts of our deck. They are amazing climbers though. I saw one about 8 feet up in an apple tree once.
Scott Weber: Amazing blooms, all around, but the Purple Lupine is hands-down my favorite…just stunning!
Les: I see several things I covet, including the Trillium, Bloodroot and Epimedium.
Josh: nice post! very precious seeds and seedlings indeed.
Steve Lau: It’s nice to see other people growing tree peony seedlings. I’ve been growing those for a few years now. I think I need to find some of that gravel for my potting mixes
Edwin: Great choice of plant.. A peony is one plant you will enjoy for a long time. One thing peonies do need is a lot of water in the spring up until the flowers open, and again in the fall when they start to form the buds for next...
Bernieh: Wow, you have some truly beautiful blooms on show right now. I had to take my time scrolling slowly to appreciate them all. Thanks for sharing. I just loved all the different Hellebores flowers floating in the bowl, and that...
Aist?: I was so surprised to find a photo of Hepatica nobilis ‘Lithuanian Blue’ on your blog. Hepatica nobilis is a native plant in Lithuania. It is a traditional symbol of spring here. But I never knew that there is a cultivar which...
Missy: Simply stunning – Wow – Most of the flowers in your garden won’t grow her so they are all rare beautiful gems to me.
Melissa: I had no idea you were up to this – am SO impressed! I used to grow perennials and annuals from seeds using a grow-light set up with shelves in my basement with limited success. I need to take a road trip to see this 8th...
Les: Looks like a nice shopping trip. I almost made it to Pine Knot this year, but just could not pull it together. I also looked in vain for ‘Rise and Shine’ at Sandy’s in Richmond, but she was out.
This is the stuff of nightmares to me.
Aren’t these the dangerous ones?
Horrendous, but a terrific capture.
Your garden must give you great delight at the moment.
